On February 24th I rose at 5am(!) to take the expo line to Pacific central station to be 40 minutes early for the 6:30am train to Portland. American hospitality, service standards and carbs- my first act was to buy a huge gooey cinnamon bun from the dining car. Nine hours, meditation, 3 chapters of Beyond Religion, ear plugs to block out crying children and angry moms and a turkey sandwich later we roll into Portlandia. I felt spacy on 4h sleep and needed a walk and $5 curry dinner from a food truck at Alder. Lots of homeless people sleeping everywhere and it was only 7pm. Back to the hood (Nob hill) and popped by McMenemins Blue Moon pub for a glass of Ruby, an unsweetened light, raspberry beer. Ready for bed by 9pm and a long sleep.
