Hyde Park, Sydney

It continued to drizzle after what are now being called “torrential rains” so we soldiered on to check out this pretty park with its gargantuan fig trees. These trees are 80 years old and many are developing hollow, rotten trunks due to poor nutrition in the soil. Thus they could fall over at any time. Captain Cook’s giant pediment cites his place of death as ‘Owhyhee’ which I guess is evidence of the oral tradition of Hawaii. Photos above include the Anzac monument and the Sandringham garden. Hyde park is a fraction of the size of its London brother!
