Kaikoura peninsula & seal colony (part 1)

I was told this was a 4 hour walk but as I found myself going around the rocks at sea(l) level, it was almost a 6 hour excursion! Beautiful scenery and warm though glad of the partial cloud to protect my pasty skin.

These are photos of heron, pied shags and seas- so many seals! You could smell them several metres away which is fair warning as we are told to stay back at least 10 metres. Near the entrance to the seal colony I saw two Mediterranean guys being charged by a seal because they had gotten too close and were annoying it while it tried to sunbathe in peace. It lumbered forward a couple of paces and this scared them off. They probably deserved a good scare as they knew better.
