The Wairarapa: Siri struggles to say the names as well !
Two Kiwi friends and I went for a lovely jaunt into the Wairarapa region north of Wellington. Antiques were browsed (and laughed at), olive oil and chocolate tasted, pretty gardens oohed and ahhed and of course flat whites drunk. We made the most of weather that was struggling to be bright and summery – by the evening it was 12C and windy back in Wellington. By contrast the Wairarapa normally enjoys a dry microclimate which helps wine growing and olive oil production. Last summer was great for olive oil so at least we could sample the bounty while hoping for a repeat this year.
