Wright Hill Fortress, Wellington
Wright Hill was tunnelled and outfitted with anti-ship guns during World War II (removed and ironically sold to the Japanese as scrap metal in the 1960s). The circular area housing the guns (e.g. Photo 7) had been filled in as well. The restoration of the fortress started in the 1990s. It was still unclear where the soldiers ate their meals (my chief concern) and where they went to the loo. Perhaps those wings might be uncovered yet by the keen and smiley volunteers in fatigues. Wright hill only opens 4 time per year so it was well remembered by Stephen.
